We got out of Leakey Saturday morning just in time: we were warned
that over 200 Harleys would be there by evening. Indeed all Friday
night we heard the advanced party streaming in. We will adapt Goethe's
comment about the German people "Ah Harleys! How admirable in the
individual; how despicable in the masses!".
Riding out east bound on 337 we were again photographically frustrated
by misty rain. You'll simply have to take our word for the beauty of
the panorama.
Near Vanderpool we sidetracked to the Lonestar Motorcycle Museum, an
excellent private collection of vintage bikes. There were several that
might have been the model for the bike Peter Otoole rode to the death
of T E Lawrence in the opening scene of L. of Arabia
We discovered two more exquisite hill country gems: the roads from
Medina to Kerrville and the road from Hunt up the north fork of the
Guadeloupe. And in the afternoon we arrived in -- Africa.

A "famous" biker stop in Leakey. Somewhat up scale from "The Hog
Pen" (of which no more need be said). The view was its best feature,
and otherwise not remarkable.

Isaacks in Junction
South Llano River
Twisted Sisters loop
Today starting from Leakey we rode the clockwise Three Sisters loop
(ranch roads 337 335 336) with a lunch stop in Junction. I'm willing
to grant that the Alps or Dolomites might have a few equally good
motorcycle roads, but no better. An asphalt roller coaster with
stream crossings. But regrettably few turnouts where we could safely
stop for photos. So the one overlooking the South Llano River near
Junction must suffice.
In Junction we enjoyed Isaaks whose sign and menu has not changed for 50 years.

The Twisted Sisters
"When shall we three meet again ..." <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T hree_Witches>
We are off to ride the famous Twisted Sisters.
A ride through this part of Texas will most certainly change your view of my beloved state. You will ride amongst scenery as good as it gets, along clear rivers, through very twisty mountain type curves amidst real Texas Ranches. With million dollar vistas and cool clear waters along with friendly folks and knowing that you are riding the best this large state can offer, makes for great riding...

Why I ride GS
Today I'm getting service on my BMW F650GS.
I got a loaner bike, a Triumph American.
It reminds me why I ride a GS.

Sunday
Our last day in the Hill Country was perfect except for a strong wind.
We rode through Luckenbach down past Canyon Lake and down the
Guadalupe River Road. Then over delightfully curvy back roads to some
yuppie style comfort food in Comfort. Returned to Fburg via the Old
Tunnel Road This is what it's all about.

Tomorrow looks good for return to Houston.

Saturday
today some of the best scenery and riding in Texas (or the US). North
and West of fburg the Willow City Loop, Enchanted Rock, the Llano
canyon to Mason, and back to Fburg. Cloudy but mild and no rain. Isn't
it about time you gave some serious thought to thanking your lucky
stars you are in Texas?

Hill Country 1
The ride Thursday from Houston to Fredericksburg was pleasant and
uneventful, agreeably punctuated by a green chile cheeseburger at The
Roadhouse (Texas Monthly Award) and a detour down Creek Road from
Dripping Springs.

Today we headed up Tx 39 running along the beautiful south fork of the
Guadalupe then to Leakey and back on 337 one of the Twisted Sisters.
Mists and sometimes drizzle kept us from exploiting the curves but the
scenery was magnificent.
Along the river near Hunt we passed Toad Hall Two. A weird stone
whimsical mission. If anybody knows the story about it I would like to
hear.
